This was a successful 1 minute, 16 second test of the Mercury escape and landing system.
The test took place at Wallops Island.
Mercury-Redstone Booster Development
24 March 1961
Launched from Cape Canaveral LC-5, the 8 minute 23 second flight ironed out previous diffficulties with the Redstone rocket. The rocket and boiler
plate capsule impacted the ocean 307 miles downrange.
Mercury-Scout 1
1 November 1961
Launched from Cape Canaveral LC-18B, this was to be a tracking test using a small box shaped satellite. It failed to rech orbit.
