The cosmonauts were unable to get a hard dock with the Salyut 6 space station after 5 attempts. Because of the limited life of the Soyuz batteries, an attempt at the aft port was not taken and the craft returned to Earth. The Soyuz 25 probe docking unit was suspected but could not be examined because the orbital module was discarded at reentry.
